We earlier discussed the status of iPad 2 Jailbreak and the conclusion was that it will eventually be a userland jailbreak as SHAtter is almost patched. Things seem a bit harsh for jailbreak and unlock community after Apple released iPad 2 and iOS 4.3 update. The unlock scene for iPhone is still shaky. Now, jailbreak scenario appears spoiled because SHAtter is almost fixed.
SHAtter is a bootrom exploit which was discovered by Chronic Dev Team. It was preserved for future devices like iPad 2 and iPhone 5 when Limera1n was revealed by GeoHot. Current generation of tools rely on Limera1n. It was pretty evident that Limera1n would be fixed in next hardware revisions. However, SHAtter was expected to be there despite a leak controversy. If you have upgraded iPhone 4/3GS to 4.3 update, be ready to receive another update which will be iPhone 4.3.1. It is because iPhone 4 was hacked on Pwn2Own 2011 by some Hackers. The iPhone 4 was running on iOS 4.2.1 and mobile safari vulnerability was used to get access to Address Book.
