what you can do is ask a friend with ATT to put his sim in your iphone, this will activate it. from there, just jailbreak and then install ultrasnow
so you need an att sim card. this is completely uselees for international iphones.
You do not need an AT&T sim card. If anything all you need is a wifi connection. First to go to the webpage and jailbreak the phone. Use cydia – sources – manage – edit – add – http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com – open the source and download and install ultrasn0w and viola done. I’m in Germany and it was easy to do. And for those of you that aren’t too bright. It’s a zero not a capital o.
so, what u said is i could use a friend att sim card to activate my iphone 3gs tru itunes and then jailbreak it, but are u sure that my friend can use his sim card back with no problem after that…
Me too! I think it's ridiculous because I think a lot of people jailbreak simply because they need their phone to be unlocked. I don't use cydia for any reason beyond unlocking. I'm pissed!

my 4G iphone on ios4.0.1 is stuck on apple screen too. tried rebooting many times with the same result. also have itunes opened and phone plugged in.

I used jailbreakme on my Ipad 3g 32 gb running firmware 3.2.1. It worked but after I turned off my ipad (completely power down) and tried to start it, it went to a restart loop.
So, at this moment some more fix is needed but I am sure it will come soon ! thanks to all the people trying to help us.
how do you upgrade from a jailbroken 3gs on 3.1.3 to 4.01 and jailbreak with this?

just go onto cydia and download 'Features (for iPod 2G)' or 'Features (for iPhone 3G)' depending on if you have and ipod or iphone

i have just used the jailbreakme on my iphone 3gs with 4.0.1
it says the jailbreak was successful and installed cydia however when i try installing unofficial apps through itunes it wont let me. i also have a jailbroken iphone that is running 3.1 and i am able to install apps through itunes. is there something im not doing right
u need to install "appsync 4.0" from cydia then it itunes will install anything end with ipa

No you have to downgrade to ios 4.0 for any ipod touch device.
Unfortunately Apple is not happy that jailbreaking is now legal and therefore are doing everything possible to hinder the process. If you have itunes 10 it will not allow you to downgrade. If you have itunes 9.1.2 then downgrading is possible.

yes it is possible, but if you want to use jailbreakme 2.0 (which is the site you are on) you need to downgrade your ipod to 4.0 software. There are videos about it on youtube, its not too hard
