After Google jumped into NFC with Nexus S and Android 2.3, it was almost sure that Apple would also introduce NFC capabilities in next generation of iOS Devices. Indications were already present since Apple hired NFC specialist, Benjamin Vigier back in 2010. Now, Computer World is reporting that Apple has started placing orders for NFC chips for iPad 2 and iPhone 5 while bringing new manufacturers into supply chain.

The manufacturing cycle seems to start in February and May for iPad 2 and iPhone 5 respectively. Apple may also provide subsidized or free NFC capable terminals to merchants to make this mobile payment solution popular and successful. Apple may also revamp its iTunes to hold users’ information regarding credit cards. Apple already holds multiple patents which will be potentially employed to make this process more useful and trustworthy.
