Multiple reports claimed that iPad 2 will be equipped with a screen that supports double resolution 2048×1536 as compare to current generation’s 1024×768. However, Daring Fireball had a different opinion as this resolution does not meet any standard resolution like Full HD. Now, IDC research manager Tom Mainelli also believes that this resolution is not fit as of now but iPad 3 might be finally featuring this resolution.

I think the Digitimes story probably got the resolution right, but the iPad version wrong. Our sources say Apple has requested that manufacturers begin work on displays with that resolution for the iPad 3.I don’t believe anybody is ready to produce that resolution in volumes at this point. And Apple is going to require huge volumes for the iPad 2

It is bit early to think about iPad 3 as iPad 2 has yet to come out. iPad 2 is going to be a big upgrade as it is expected to include Dual Core Processor along with GPU, Rare and Front Face cameras, More storage, large speaker along with some extra slots. Let’s wait to play with iPad 2 and then think about iPad 3. iPad 2 may be announced in early February but it will be launched in early April according to some reports. On a side note, there has been speculation on iPad 2 resolution but what about iPhone 5 whose reference has been found in iOS 4.3?
