There has been a buzz around Rubyra1n and geohot’s untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1. We had earlier analyzed that it is unlikely GeoHot will reveal a new tool named Rubyra1n as he intends to quit. In that article, we also referenced to @musclenerd’s earlier tweet about an iBoot level vulnerability being preserved by GeoHot.
Recently, @musclenerd uttered a word again about that vulnerability. It is also worth noting that this untethered vulnerability will not work on all devices. Why is this so? The reason was given by @musclenerd at the time when GeoHot stepped with Limera1n exploit. According to GeoHot, the vulnerability has been fixed by Apple in newer devices at iBoot level. Probably, these devices are iPhone 4, iPad, and iPod Touch 4G.
As there is no reason to hold this vulnerability any more, it could be released anytime like for iOS 4.3 Jailbreak. The next fair time for this release will be when iOS 4.3 is out. iPhone Dev Team already has “Monte” to jailbreak 4.3 if @comex releases iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak. However if @comex postpones and will eventually release 4.3 jailbreak, geohot might hold for a bit longer and will eventually release the jailbreak for iOS 4.3.1/iOS 4.3.2. Bright chances are that Limera1n rc2 will be released before iOS 5.0.
