Limera1n will jailbreak iOS 4.1 untethered on iPhone 4/3GS iPod Touch 4G/3G and iPad 3.2.2 on 10/11/10

This may be exciting news for some of the users but it will be eventually a loss to jailbreak community. GeoHot who was expected to make a last appearance has finally came out after Chronic Dev Team promised an ETA for Greenpois0n. He has released the news through multiple channels that Limera1n will eventually be released on 10/11/10 right after one day of Greenpois0n release as it will also be the anniversary of his last public tool known as blackra1n.

This information was circulating in IRC and he also talked to Modmyi. Later on, @p0sixninja , @musclenerd, @comex, and many others confirmed this through a series of Tweets.

reminder: the limerain thing is also tethered, so the pwned for life bit is only for a tethered jailbreak

both limerain and greenpoison are using the same userland exploit to untether on 4.1 only.

Limera1n will be an all in one untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.1 on all current devices contrary to Greenpois0n who will only work with iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G, and iPad. It looks like that limera1n jailbreak is better but the problem lies in making two bootrom exploits public at once. Limera1n is also a tethered bootrom exploit like SHAtter but it works on iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3G as well. If both exploits are revealed at once in form of Greenpois0n and limera1n, Apple will eventually fix both in upcoming generation of devices and chances of new bootrom exploit will be ruined.

@chronicdevteam but if it works for 3gs why not, alot of ppl need a jb for there 3gs, and theres more 3gs then i4.

@themakdee because his different exploit can be saved for new iphone / ipad / ipod, AND 3G S, you’d just have to wait a little longer

Chronic Dev Team has been asked by GeoHot to incorporate his exploit in Greenpois0n so that SHAtter can be saved for next generation iDevices. As they have announced an ETA, it is very difficult for them to make a work around in order to corporate GeoHot’s exploit.

However, the last tweet from Chronic Dev Team is the only hope which promises to handle the situation so that we get a jailbreak and also a bootrom exploit is also reserved.

We are currently working the “situation” out. Don’t worry, you’ll still get the jailbreak in the end, nothing to be concerned about.

We hope that end result is in favor of Jailbreaking Community. We have to wait for a day or two to see what comes out of the situation
