Redsn0w 0.9.6 was released to jailbreak iOS 4.1 on iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G [Non MC] untethered. The new addition was an exploit which also jailbreaks iPod Touch 2G Non-MC models although it is tethered. Redsn0w is now built upon two ever green exploits for iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G. The only downside for the time being is that iPod Touch 2G MC models will be jailbroken tethered.
As they are ever green exploits, they are sure to be work on any upcoming iOS release with a slight modification. As there is a beta release of iOS 4.2 available, developers might be looking for iOS 4.2 jailbreak to make their apps compatible. iOS 4.2 will bring many improvements for iPhone and iPod Touch users while it will be a revolutionary change for iPad users. Redsn0w 0.9.6 will not work with iPad but iPhone 3G and iPod Touch users can give it a try. According to MuscleNerd,

It means that you will be able to jailbreak iOS 4.2 but there may be some annoying bugs. You should proceed at your own risk with iOS 4.2 jailbreak. If you have any other device Greenpois0n 4.2 will bring a jailbreak.
