Apple has just released iPhone 4.1 firmware update for iPhone 4 3GS 3G and iPod Touch 3G 2G while iPod Touch 4G is being shipped with 4.1 update preinstalled. iPhone 4.1 beta was revealed months ago and it has progressed through different stages. It is the first major upgrade by Apple since release of iOS4 although iPhone 4.0.1 and iPhone 4.0.2 update were released but they contained solely bug fix for signal calculation formula and JailbreakMe respectively.

iPhone 4.1 Fixes Several Bugs:
Apple has long due bug fixes since 4.0. The most irritating for some iPhone 4 users was regarding proximity sensor. iPhone 4.1 attempts to solve the bug for iPhone 4 users. Despite unavailability of multi tasking feature on 4.0 firmware, it has performed very poor on iPhone 3G. Reportedly, there are some improvements. Hey, the 4.1 download for ipod 2g doesn't have a .ipws or something file in it. Help!
change the file extension form .zip to .ipsw
same issue, mine is set to ipsw and still cant find firmware
go to start on your computer, search folder options, click view, then untick hide extensions for known file types. then change the extension of the ios folder to ipsw and that should do it
Ios4.1 Bluetooth is worse than 4.0x ! there is now no control of the music from the device where before you could at least play and pause now you can do nothing! a real pain in my car as i cannot control my music at all now without picking up the phone and doing it there, which is clearly not an option in a car!
Apple tell me i cannot upgrade (yes upgrade) to 4.0 from 4.1 great thanks Apple for removing all the usefulness of my iphone 4 with no way back!

I am not sure if it is totally relevant, but when I was on 4.01 I recorded all the best farts I did over a one month period, even some toilet plops, now that I have updated the phone I am hearing an echo that wasnt there before.

to downgrade ipod just download the firmware and plug your ipod in and were its says update hold down shift and than click update and its downgrade time
