Finally iOS 4.0.2 for iPod Touch has arrived and Apple has fixed the PDF bug used by JailbreakMe to Jailbreak iPod Touch 4.0. If you have jailbroken iPod Touch 3G 2G on 4.0 then you are recommended not to update as there is nothing special in this iPod Touch 4.0.2 firmware except the bug fix.
There is a concern for new buyers who will have iPod Touch 4.0.2 pre installed or someone who accidentally updated to 4.0.2 firmware. We have studied the future scenario for jailbreak in our articles like JailbreakMe 4.1, Jailbreak 4.0.2, and Jailbreak iPad 3.2.2. The conclusion is that there is a new bug in iOS found by comex but it is expected to be preserved until iOS 4.1 arrives along with iOS 4 for iPad and iPod Touch 4G.
We are unsure that this bug will be released as updated version of JailbreakMe, Spirit Jailbreak 4.1 or a new tool at all to jailbreak ipod touch 4.0.2. It is almost sure that we have to wait for iOS 4.1 to arrive.

I’m with u guys too, we just have to wait until apple realeases ios 4.1. Then jailbreakme or spirit or something will realease a new virsion of jailbreaking for ios 4.1. This will probably take a couple of months. If jailbreakme and some other jailbreaking company comes out with a new jailbreak at the same time use jailbreakme. Jailbreakme is alot easier, all you have to do is go to http://www.jailbreakme.com and then slid to jailbreak. Then it should say downloading, then it sould say jailbreaking, then it sould say “cydia has been added to ur home screen. Have fun!”
you cant use that websight if your ipod is upgraded to 4.0.2 and its a mc model…it tells you that your virsion is too high
Yeah it does but Like Ivan said, we have to wait ’til the iso 4.1 comes out which should be done right now. So we have to wait now for jailbreakme to Come with an update
apple changed itunes so that downgrading is no longer available from itunes. However there are a few other win based programs that will allow you to do after you manualy put your device into DFU mode

you need to have itunes 9.2 to downgrade the frimware
If you are on a mac, Hold ALT!!!! You can downgrade on itunes 10, but you must hold alt!

Can anyone tell me when the newer jailbreak for 4.0.2 firmware is available.
You can connect it to your computer, hold shift and press restore. that will let you choose a downloaded software. you must download the ipod software from the itnernet. I did the same. since i am on a mac, this is what i did
Upgraded to 4.0.2.
Downloaded version 4.0.1.
Went onto itunes with ipod connected, and held ALT i repeat ALT (Alt for mac, shift for pc) and then a screen poped up. You must then select the software. just click and press open.
It will restore with that version, and now you can jailbraek it !

if you're using older version of ipod touch/iphone/ipad, use safari from ipod touch -> http://www.jailbreakme.com -> slide to jailbreak, and you're all done… Doesn't work for the new version 4.0.2

Not sure if people have figured a way yet but managed to downgrade my ipod touch 2g mc model from 4.0.2
after two days of stressing and looking and trying many different way, finally found that the only way that worked was to
Firstly use a computer with windows xp,
install itunes 9.2 ( find a way to downgrade),
goto c:windowssystem 32/drivers/etc/
then click on the host file and open it with note pad and add right at the bottom "74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com"
Then goto http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/ and download ipod touch 2g 4.0/8a23
Then put the ipod touch in recovery mode, the one where the screen goes blank but is still recognized and itunes will tell u that it is in recovery mode
anyways left shift click the retore button under itunes and search for the 4.0 ipsw then fingers crossed it should work
the ipod screen will go white then continue to load so dont panic
THEN with the 4.0 loaded goto jailbreakme.com and use that in order to jailbreak

you mention ipod touch 2g 4.0/8a23. The site you referred to only offers version 2g 4.0/8a293. Is this a typo on your part?
