After iOS 4.0.1 release, iPhonne Dev Team confirmed that redsn0w 0.9.5 can jailbreak 4.0.1 firmware on iPhone 3G and iPod Touch []. Then, sn0wbreeze 1.8 beta was release but it supported jailbreaking iOS 4.1 Beta on iPhone 3GS [Old Bootrom] and iPod Touch 3G 2G [Non MC models]. iOS 4.1 will be the next iOS release. The iPhone 3GS users who have upgraded to iOS 4.0.1 are still without any official jailbreak tool.
To fill the vacuum, some unknown developer have modified the original PwnageTool 4.0.1 to work with iPhone 3GS [Old Bootrom] on 4.0.1 firmware. Similar tool was released for iOS 4.0 firmware which was disapproved by iPhone Dev Team as it does not patch some necessary files to unlock iPhone 3GS with ultrasn0w. This tool has not been tested to work for iPhone 3GS 4.0.1 jailbreak. You can try it at your own risk. It is recommended to wait for Spirit 4.0.1 Jailbreak to arrive which will eventually smash all iDevices.

ive been waiting for a month for this jailbreak… when they release the new ver of spirit i hope its the best thing that happened to me..
Patience is a virtue… however it seems to be one the general public lacks. The Iphone Dev-Team does their work for free, and its not like there is a long line of people that are out there working on this problem aside from them. If you want a Jailbreak, your just gonna have to be patient and wait. I have a 3GS new bootrom on 4.0, trust me, I am eagerly waiting on this Jailbreak, constantly complaining about it will not get it to us any faster… be patient and wait for the true heros of this industry to spring us all from the jail that is wardened by the notorious Apple.
