The discussion regarding iOS 4.0.1 jailbreak now requires a look at possible scenario for iOS 4.0.1 unlock. Usually, Apple upgrades baseband in upcoming firmware if it was vulnerable in the previous firmware. It looks like Apple’s engineers were putting all their efforts in counting signal bars and fix the previous miscalculation in iOS 4.0.1. They did not get time to patch baseband exploit used by ultrasn0w 0.93 in iOS 4.0.1.

The member of iPhone Dev Team, @MuscleNerd, and others have confirmed that there is no baseband update in iOS 4.0.1. Hence, it is possible to unlock iOS 4.0.1 with ultrasn0w. It would take some before iOS 4.0.1 unlock is released as they have to release Spirit Jailbreak 4.0.1 for all iDevices. They are also busy in finalizing iPhone 4 Unlock. It is a matter of week as solution to jailbreak iOS 4.0.1 and unlock iOS 4.0.1 arrive.

Update: You can follow this How To for unlocking iPhone 3GS 3G on iOS 4.0.1.

Update: iPhone 4 Unlock is out as ultrasn0w 1.0-1. Free you iPhone 4 from carrier’s dependence.
