Apple faced a serious challenge regarding iPhone 4 signal loss issue. The problem was named as “Death Grip” because many users reported that the drop occurs when you hold iPhone 4 in special manner. This prolonged for some time and Apple took the position that it occurs in every mobile phone and iPhone 4 is no exception rather iPhone 4 has better reception that previous 3GS and 3G.
Later on, Apple disclosed that there is some miscalculation in signal bar calculation according to the given signal strength at a specific time. They explained that iOS4 can display more bars while there is low signal strength. On the other hand, it displays less bars while there is strong signal strength. Now AT&T has recommended them a formula which will calculate signal bars more efficiently as there is not industry standard to calculate and every Vendor adjust the formula accordingly.
To fix this issue, Apple will releasing iOS4.0.1 firmware for all iDevices like iPhone 4 3GS and 3G. iOS4.0.1 will likely bring other improvements and fixes for example regarding gyroscope issues.
