Jailbreak 4.0.1 Impelling Apple to Delay iOS 4.0.1 Release?

July 11, 2010

There have been rumors floating around that iOS 4.0.1 release might get delayed because Apple is working to patch the security holes used to jailbreak iOS 4 by redsn0w 0.9.5, PwnageTool 4.0, and sn0wbreeze 1.7. The exploits used in these tools to jailbreak 3GS 3G and iPod Touch old ones as they don’t support 3GS New Bootrom or iPod Touch MC Models. In our analysis, these exploits are of no concern to Apple as they have been already patched with introduction of new bootrom.

Fix iOS 4.0.1 Jailbreak 4.0.1 Impelling Apple to Delay iOS 4.0.1 Release? Then what is this rumor about? It might be regarding the new userland jailbreak or ultrasn0w unlock. Earlier userland jailbreak which was released Spirit Jailbreak 3.1.3 was patched by Apple with release of iOS4 and iTunes 9.2 although a fix came around to make Spirit 3.1.3 work with iTunes 9.2. This has already indicated that Apple’s Engineers was not able to patch it completely and this partial patch along with comex’s tweak has eventually become the basis of Spirit 4.0.1. This upcoming tool will also accomplish iPhone 4 jailbreak.

So, Apple might be trying to find this vulnerability which will eventually enable users to Jailbreak 4.0.1 and 4.0 firmware. The other possibility is that they might be patching baseband to prevent upcoming iPhone 4 unlock with ultasn0w 0.94.

In our view, this jailbreak or unlock patching in the upcoming 4.0.1 firmware release is far less important than to resolve Signal Bars issue which has created some trouble for Apple and has been vigoruously reported by users and bloggers as “Death Grip”. Further, the rumor is being tied to Apple Store workers which have far less information regarding these firmware releases. So, there is very narrow chance of delay in iOS 4.0.1 release.
