It has been really cumbersome for iPhone 3GS [New Bootrom] owners to jailbreak it. If you cannot jailbreak it then you can’t unlock it. After 3.1.3 firmware, it took enough time till Spirit jailbreak arrived to rescue. Now iOS 4.0 is out and will this happen again? To date, there is no solution but there are plenty of developments which indicate that it will become a reality soon to enjoy awesome feature of iOS 4.0 on a jailbroken iPhone 3GS [New Bootrom].
The developments indicate that the jailbreak solution will arrive with support of iPhone 4 but there is a recent progress with respect to iPhone 3GS [New Bootrom] exclusively. @ih8sn0w, the developer of popular sn0wbreeze tool has managed to create a solution for iPhone 3GS [New Bootrom] users to jailbreak it on 4.0 firmware if they saved 3.1.2 SHSH Blobs. The tool in the demonstration is named as sn0wbreeze but you will be lucky only if you saved 3.1.2 SHSH Blobs.
The developer indicates that he is looking to release it as a tool [sn0wbreeze] for those who saved 3.1.2 SHSH Blobs for their iPhone 3GS [New Bootrom]. As the progress is being made on a solution to exploit new bootrom, the final day is no far any more.
