iPhone 4 has been pre ordered like hot cakes. Apple Store’s servers were not even able to handle the rush flowing to pre order iPhone 4. According to reports, 0.6 million iPhone 4 were pre ordered within 20 hours only on US Apple Store and AT&T. Boom! The shipping date of next iPhone 4 batch was displayed 2nd July. That shipping date was again altered to July 14th. It has been also reported that some customers who succeeded to preorder it for 24th June were notified that their delivery date has been postponed to 2nd July.
What’s happening? Apple didn’t expect such gigantic number of pre orders because they are 10 times larger than iPhone 3GS pre order. Also these preorders have been made in absence of White iPhone 4. It is also confirmed that White iPhone 4 will also be not available for store pick up on 24th June. There are two theories about what would have happened if White iPhone 4 was also available for preorder. One argument is that pre orders for White iPhone 4 would have lessened the load on Apple because customers might have pre ordered for White iPhone 4 and it would have create room for Apple. Some contest that availability of White iPhone 4 would have further burdened Apple to manage more orders.
It is still not confirmed that what is the release date of White iPhone 4. If it was some weeks after 24th June, it has surely been deferred more because Apple has got more busy in managing demand for black iPhone 4. Probably, it is going to be late summer when White iPhone 4 will be released and shipped.
Update: Apple issues an official statement regarding delay in release of White iPhone 4
White models of Apple’s new iPhone® 4 have proven more challenging to manufacture than expected, and as a result they will not be available until the second half of July. The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected.
