Jailbreak iPod Touch 2G iOS 4.0 with redsn0w 0.9.5

Finally , iPhone Dev Team has also started rolling out solutions to jailbreak iPod Touch running on iOS 4.0. They have updated their redsn0w 0.9.5 beta which allows owners of iPod Touch 2G to jailbreak iOS 4. It also enables multitasking and home screen wallpaper on iPod Touch 2G which is not natively supported in iOS 4.0 for iPod Touch 2G. It does not hacktivate iPod Touch 2G running on iOS 4.0 GM, you have to wait for public release of iOS 4.0.

Here is a tutorial which can be followed to jailbreak iPod Touch 2G on iOS 4.0. This guide is for MAC users and developers only. Normal users should stay away.

Function 1: Download and install iTunes 9.2 for MAC. {Link at Bottom}

Function 2: Download iOS 4.0 and redsn0w 0.9.5. {Links at Bottom}

Function 3: Upgrade iPod Touch 2G to iOS 4.0 firmware.

Function 4: Execute redsn0w 0.9.5 and direct it towards iOS 4.0 for iPod Touch 2G.

Function 5: Select install Cydia’ and move forward by clicking ‘Next’.

Function 5: Connect iPod Touch 2G to system and turn it off.

Function 6: Now, you will start iPod Touch 2G in recovery mode as follows

• Press and hold the Home button and the Power (Sleep/Wake) button at the same time.
• Release Power button after few seconds while holding the Home button until installation initiates.

Function 7: The remaining process will be done by redsn0w 0.9.5. After the jailbreak is executed, iPod Touch 2^nd Gen will restart automatically and you will have a jailbroken iPod Touch 2G running on iOS 4.
