Apple has renamed iPhone OS 4.0 to iOS 4.0. It was long due because iPod Touch uses the same OS then why stick its name to iPhone OS 4.0. There has another device emerged which pushes to drop the previous name iPhone OS 4.0 and adopt a new one iOS 4.0. Guess what? It is iPad. It is using the same OS as iPhone and iPod Touch. Now the added weight of iPad along with iPod Touch has force Apple to rename it as iOS 4.0.
iOS 4.0 beta was previewed in March and the stable release of iOS 4.0 named as Gold Master has been announced on WWDC 2010. iOS 4.0 is available for developers today but date for public release has not been confirmed. We hope that iOS 4.0 will be available for public as well very soon. Still, the iOS 4.0 can be downloaded as developers leak it and it is possible to upgrade your iPhone and iPod Touch to iOS 4.0. Update: Finally, iOS 4 gets out of pre release stage {GM Candidate} and has been released for public download. The masses can update now their iPhone 3GS/3G and iPod Touch 3rd / 2nd Generation to iOS 4. iOS 4 brings a bundle of awesome features for iPhone and iPod Touch users. The prominent are multitasking, freedom to install more apps, and wallpaper support.
