The news, rumors, and details of jailbreaking and unlocking tools emerge rapidly as soon as a new iPhone or iPod Touch generation is expected or an update in firmware is out there. A release of new type of Device can also heat up the situation like iPad did. We recently received spirit jailbreak gift from the Hackers to rock iPad 3.2, iPhone 3.1.3, and iPod Touch 3.1.3 {Old Bootrom}. Still, there are no solutions available for 3.1.3 with new bootrom.
There have been some working exploits found but they haven’t been released. The reason is obvious as iPhone and iPod Touch will sooner be upgraded to firmware 4.0 and there is almost no doubt about upcoming iPhone 4 as well. We already covered in detail the possibilities of jailbreak 4.0.
Update 1: GeoHot is planning a return on 11th October 2010 with Limera1n Release.
It would be misappropriate if we are not expecting a solution from GeoHot. He has already shown proof to jailbreak iPhone 4.0 and iPad 3.2. He also stated that it would take some time for a public release as he has other tasks to accomplish and as well as waiting for release of iPhone firmware 4.0 and iPhone 4. If the jailbreak 4.0 or unlock iPhone 4 tools are released now, Apple will be able to fix the vulnerabilities quickly even before the release of firmware 4.0 or iPhone 4.
It can be figured that GeoHot is going to release solutions for three jailbreak scenarios
- Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.3 with new Baseband or Bootrom (Unlock)
- Jailbreak iPad 3.2
- Jailbreak iPhone 4.0
Jailbreak 3.1.3 will likely be released as an updated version of blackra1n to finish the jailbreaking of iPhone 3.x firmware. Will there be a new tool with a fresh name to jailbreak 4.0? Probably, the answer is yes. A domain “limera1n.com“ has been found registered with name of George Hotz. The domain of blackra1n tool is also registered with same details. It turns out that GeoHot‘s next tool to jailbreak iPhone 4.0, iPod Touch 4.0 and iPad 3.2 will be named as limera1n. The tool name, limera1n also matches with the terminology of earlier jailbreaking tool called blackra1n. Getting excited about limera1n, the tool’s icon is displayed on the website.

It is visible that Google Analytics code has been added to get details of visiting users. The owner has also a comment about the lime color. Till any official details emerge or availability of download limera1n, it can be guessed that limera1n is going to jailbreak 4.0 on iPhone and iPod Touch and possibly iPad 3.2.

Update 4: Kaatje, a former Apple Employ, has managed to jailbreak 4.0 on iPhone 3GS. It may be released by iPhone Dev Team as Pwnage Tool 4.0 but nothing can be assured until Pwnage Tool 4.0 download is available
Update 5:Unlock iPhone 4.0 is discussed with some expected tools to achieve the task.
